haha, interesting ! I won't try narrowing it down since a lot happened back then. I don't have direct experience with that era since I was born in the Y2K...
Most of my historical knowledge comes from reading of the tragic Sun Microsystems acquisition.
But since you say that you had a critical role I'm going to assume that you worked with server hardware for a geographically local big-corp in it's early startup days ? Either way I won't pry an answer out of you.
I am mostly curious about your early job title because it might help me understand where to aim- as I am trying to get my foot in the door somewhere interesting for my first full time job. I am graduating with a design bachelors degree in June- and well... currently the design world is bleak so I am trying to pivot.
I thought I could leverage my IT skills since I am a hobbyist server administrator. But nowadays it's so accessible to do this sort of thing that it's not impressive like it was in 1991.
I've been trying to find a sort of compromise and have been applying for roles like a Junior Technical Artist at CIG which sounds like it's in the middle but I'm not properly qualified at the moment. I might need to up my skills and directly aim for a specific role by learning all the prerequisites and then making an application?
I saw an opportunity here due to overlap haha
Well it seems that our tastes align ;) I'm wondering if you have any advice for a younger you in today's age ? Like where could these tastes and hobbies lead to ? What kind of job titles should I be aware of ? Outside of design I really am clueless.
You said that you made "a damn good career" by turning a hobby into a career... There's got to be some wisdom that I can extract from you !
